I built a bridge

That went up

To the sun

And as I climbed

I heard your voice.

It shrilly called out

To me saying,

‘The clouds will

Swallow you whole

If you let them!’

But I ignored you

And continued

To climb.

I was halfway there

‘The clouds!’

You reminded.

It was patronizing.

And yet

Your words

Almost pushed me off.

I nearly drowned

In the abyss

Of blue sky.

But I kept going.

You watched.

I continued.

You were waiting.

And of course

You were right.

I could not breathe

The air

Of God.
