I did not ask
Your soul to spark,
Nor mine,
Nor any other…
Just as I did not ask
The sun to shine,
The stars to gleam,
The birds to fly-
For these are all
Such natural things.
Our spark
Was natural too.
We played the parts,
We ebbed
And flowed
So relaxedly that
No nomad could venture
The valleys
Between us.
Countless gazes
Were spent searching
For your smile,
Yet it seemed
You never longed
For mine.
The spotlight was not
Something to keep,
Rather,
Something to steal back.
A friend would
Never ask for
Such a thing,
But a girl
So wooed
And wild
Would feverishly beg,
If only
In her mind.
Yet no silent plea
Is heard.
I did not ask
Your soul to spark,
Nor mine,
Nor any other…
But I am glad
It did.
